Whether you a homeowner or renter, I think we can all say we have experienced a plumbing problem—most of which we can handle as long as we have the right plumbing tools. To own the right plumbing tools, you won’t have to break the bank. In fact, you can put together a nice little plumbing toolbox for just a few bucks.
We All Need A Plunger
Let’s start from the top; where would we be without our plunger. Wiki says the plunger was invented in 1874 and modified in 1876. I think every household in America has a plunger. It’s not only used to unclog toilets but sink and bathtubs as well. They’re available in different shapes and sizes and can be purchased at your local home center for less than $10.
Pipe Wrench Is A Handy Tool
Another handy plumbing tool for under ten bucks is a pipe wrench. Every home should own a pipe wrench. A pipe wrench is designed to turn threaded pipes and pipe fittings for assembly and tightening. Daniel C. Stillson invented the pipe wrench in 1869, and Swedish inventor Johan Petter Johansson patented the adjustable pipe wrench in 1888.
Drain Snake, Perfect For Bathroom Drains
Here’s another cool product for under $10; it’s a 63-inch drain snake, also known as a drain auger, or hair catcher. Designed for kitchen, bathroom, toilet, sinks, bathtubs, and shower drains. It has four claws at the end, which allow you to grab small objects, including hair. Perfect for bathrooms that have slow-moving drains.
The Zip-It tool Is Great For Removing Hair
The Zip-It is another tool for clearing hair from our bathroom sinks and shower drains. It’s a plastic strip that’s approximately 16 inches long with barbed edges. Very simple to use; just slip it down the drain and pull up the barbed edges do the rest. The product is very inexpensive and works like a charm.
Adjustable Rubber Strap Wrench
The adjustable rubber strap wrench is ideal for having around the house. Perfect for tightening or loosening a bathtub spout and other pipes that may have a fine finish. Since the strap is rubber, unlike metal wrenches, it does not damage surfaces. Additionally, it’s has a slip-resistant grip and works perfectly for those that may have arthritis. This is another excellent product under $10.
Drill Pump Is Perfect For Drain Your Water Heater
I must first admit that this product is slightly over $10. The product is a 200 gallons per hour (GPH) drill pump. Perfect for draining your water heater for its annual maintenance. It’s ideal for other small projects as well, such as emptying a toilet or draining a fish tank. They’re designed to work with most electric drills that produce 1,200 RPM or higher. The pump connects to a standard size garden hose.
Garbage Disposal Jam Buster
If you own an InSinkErator garbage disposal, you need a garbage disposal jam-buster—the Jam-Busters designed to free your disposal when it gets jammed. The tool is easy to use; simply insert the hex-shaped wrench into the center hole located t the bottom of your disposal. Then turn the tool back and forth until you can feel your garbage disposal free up.
Multitool Screwdriver Kit
A Multitool screwdriver kit. I found that the KER Multi-bit screwdriver tool kit was the best bang for your buck. It’s an industrial-strength screwdriver with an ergonomically thick handle with grip and higher torque output and a non-slip design that provides a comfortable grip. It also comes with four different sizes Philips screwdriver heads and three other Flathead screwdriver bits. The screwdriver can conveniently fit almost any 1/4 ” hex shank accessories to meet your multifunctional needs—an excellent tool for any household.
